Abstract
Rakover (1990) raises many important issues but he is
unduly pessimistic about the possibilities for scientific knowledge
concerning many aspects of the phenomenon of private experience in
human and nonhuman animals. His position may reflect the generally
conservative stance philosophical analysis attempts to impose on
"frontier" natural science.
Keywords
behavior, causality, experimentation, explanation,
introspection, mind-body problem, observation, philosophy,
psychology, reductionism, science, theory.
